The Cabbage Soup Diet And How It Works
Losing weight and keeping it off is often a difficult process; of course, most overweight people are always looking for easy ways to shed some pounds. The Cabbage Soup diet plan is known to many people as a popular “fad diet” that offers a rapid way to lose weight, but does it actually work? The Cabbage Soup diet calls for, as the name implies, eating cabbage soup for an entire week. During this period, dieters only consume reduced cabbage soup and a few other specific foods to lose weight. The diet program is not a lifestyle altering plan like many other well-known diet plans, and requires no long-term lifestyle changes beyond the week-long duration of the diet program.
There are several versions of the cabbage soup recipe. Most contain seasonings, cabbage and other vegetables, such as onions, bell peppers, mushrooms, celery, and tomatoes. Some people like to add spicy seasonings to make the soup tastier. Other people concerned with sodium intake want to use a low-sodium recipe. Many versions of the diet incorporate sources of protein, such as protein shakes and tofu to make the diet program more satisfying.
Besides the soup, there are highly specific rules for which additional foods are allowed on each day of the plan. As a general guideline, dieters eat cabbage soup every day, plus fruit on the first day, vegetables on the second day, fruit and vegetables on the third day, bananas and skim milk on the fourth day, tomatoes and beef on day five, vegetables and beef on the sixth day, and vegetables, fruit juice, and brown rice on the seventh, final day. Those using the diet then switch back to their normal eating habits, hopefully now a few pounds lighter.
Is the Cabbage Soup diet actually effective for fast weight loss? Although no official controlled study has studied the diet conclusively, those who have used the diet report mixed success. For many people, the diet resulted in weight loss (up to ten pounds, typically less), but only for a limited time, as the pounds gradually came back as the person returned to normal eating habits. Some people claimed to experience lack of focus, fatigue, and light-headedness while on the Cabbage Soup diet. Other people did not feel any effects at all, seeing no weight loss, but no illness either.
