Plus Size Dresses For Special Occasions
Even if you are a “plus size” woman, you can now enjoy that visit to the mall to find just the right outfit for a special event. In the past you may have had the unhappy experience of discovering that the prom gown or party dress you wanted wasn’t stocked in your size. Finally, clothing manufacturers have gotten the message, and you have a new world of style options waiting for you. Nevertheless, you must still take your body type into account if you want to find a dress that makes you look truly terrific.
When it comes to finding a dress that fits, it is good to know what body type your have. Plus size women usually have one of three body types: apple, pear, or hourglass. If you are apple-shaped, your weight is carried mainly in your middle. There is not much difference between your waist and bust size. If you are pear shaped, you carry most of your weight in your hips and thighs. If you are an hourglass shaped woman, your weight is more evenly placed between your bust and hips and your waist is smaller.
Remember to go with the size that fits your measurements, and not the number you think you should wear. Manufacturers make clothing so differently that the size number means almost nothing anymore. Consider structured undergarments to smooth out the line of your body under your gown. This will prevent lumps that distort the line of the dress.
Larger women have been brainwashed to believe that they can only wear black, if they want to look thinner. Black is fine for some women, but others miss bright colors. Also, If you are trying to fade into the background, black is definitely the wrong choice. Don’t let anyone tell you what you should wear. Wear what you like, no matter what the color. You don’t want to look like you are attending a funeral. However, it is important to check yourself out before you leave. Make sure the colors you choose don’t clash.
Be sure to try on all clothes before purchase, preferably together, including the shoes and underwear you will be wearing with the dress. This way you will know exactly what you will look like, with no suprises. Changing your bra, or shoes, or anything else can completely alter the look of the dress.
Last but not least, don’t rule out a trip to the seamstress. If you find an otherwise flattering outfit that’s just a little long, or needs to be taken in a little, your local alterations shop can often make it fit the bill. Fashions are designed for a body that doesn’t exist. Remember to take the initiative to make them fit yours.
