How To Build A Lasting And Successful Wardrobe
Every year, you’ll see magazines and websites talking about what’s new this year. However, most of us don’t revamp our wardrobes entirely every year, and most plus size women are used to hanging on to a flattering outfit if we find one. Since you only wear formal or special occasion dresses a few times a year, it’s even more important to find styles that will last, and keep looking great. Here are a few tips to finding long lasting, flattering formal clothes.
Know your body shape. You may be apple shaped, hourglass, pear shaped, an oval, or a rectangle. Where your weight is situated could make a big difference in how a dress fits you. An outfit that flatters you will look good longer than a stylish one that doesn’t suit you. Consider alterations if a garment has only a small fitting flaw. Avoid ‘up to the minute’ fashion. It looks great now, but it will probably be out soon. Stick with clothes that follow fashion more conservatively, so you’ll be able to wear that basic black dress again and again.
Comfort is the key. The right bra and a pair of high heels can make women look terrific; however, if they are completely uncomfortable, you won’t wear them again. Don’t own an ensemble that makes miserable. You won’t be able to hide your mood. In turn, you won’t enjoy your time out. Classic lines are often clean and tailored. It’s the details that change. An outfit that is simple will last you longer than one with lots of fancy details. Look for empire cuts, bodices with structure, and A-line designs; they are more likely to flatter your figure. Avoid bold prints, but don’t be afraid to wear a loud solid. Solids are classy and will stand the test of time. They will compliment your figure for a longer period of time. One warning: compare the color to your skin tone. Some colors can make you look flushed, sallow, or even ill.
Show-off your assets, and be careful to conceal those areas that you aren’t happy with. For plus sized women, especially, tailoring your clothes to fit YOU is important. If the red dress looks good on a hanger, but plays up that abdomen that you don’t like, you could end up looking like an apple. Being aware of how clothes look when you’re actually wearing them could make the difference between just that perfect dress, and one that doesn’t quite make the cut.
These are just a few suggestions that will help you develop a trendy, flattering style that can be worn for several seasons. A larger selection makes it increasingly easier to find stylish plus size clothes. Pay attention to details and remember that the fit of a dress is more important than wearing the latest fashions.
