Time Machine
Imagine yourself standing in front of a time machine. It can take you to any point in time. Past or future. However, there is a catch. You can only use this time machine for one trip only. Either to the past or to the future. In addition, You can only “change” one thing on your trip. You can also take your time traveling trip as an observer only.
Would you want to go the future or visit the past? would you go back and do things differently? Would you be making the same decisions and choices that you made in the past if you are given the chance to revisit them? I believe that it is important for us to take some time and re-think and re-evaluate some of our previous decisions. There is a lot to be gained and learned from this exercise. At the very least, we should evaluate the results of our decisions. Did we get the desired outcome? Are there any necessary changes or corrections that need to be made to ensure that we are still on track to achieving our goals? Taking action and evaluating the results of our actions go hand-in-hand. Remeber, the time machine allows you to change one thing. What would that be? It is important to recognize that one change and the reason for it. This can be a valuable lesson for the future.
Back to time travel, maybe you are more interested in observing how the world was 100, 200, or 1000 years ago. Is there a certain era that you would like to visit and live in? What about traveling to the future? Maybe go forward 10, 20 or 50 years? A question comes to mind here. Is it better to wait for the future and watch it unfold in front of us? Is it wise to look into the future? I think it would be hard to motivate yourself (or anyone else) to do anything unless and until you take a peek into the future to see the results. Almost every invention or great idea came after a number of “failures”. Imagine how the world would be if those great inventors and thinkers gave up right after the first try simply because they took a peek at the future and saw failure. I think the future is best kept as a secret. Every day, we learn more an more about this secret. The past can be our guide and teacher for achieving a better future.
Incidentally, a very nice story about time travel is Michael Crichton’s Timeline. I enjoyed this book a lot.
