How to Deal with Self-Doubt

There is a nice post on Lifehacker that talks about self-doubt and what can be done to get rid of it, or, minimize it. You can view the post here. I found this part to be really interesting:

Here are two things that may help you feel better about your own situation:

  1. Almost everyone feels the same way at times.
  2. You can only do something about your own situation.

I believe that taking responsibility for your own decisions and actions goes a long way towards achieving your goals and dreams. That includes taking ownership of your decisions. That way, you will always look inside for encouragement and solutuions to any problems and obstacles that you might face along the way. That does not mean that you should not seek the advise and/or help of others. That is perfectly normal if done within the context of reaching your goal. However, finding the courage and motivation to go forward is something that you are in charge of. It is your dream, your goal, why would anyone else be more motivated about it than you?
I would add a third option to the original list. Keep your focus on your goal. Naturally, this requires a well defined goal that has a clearly defined meaning and benefit to you. It is very easy to loose focus on a goal that is vague. The higher the value of the goal, the sharper the focus. It is a good idea to visualize the goal or dream. Do not just “see” it in your mind’s eye but also “feel” it. Try yo get as vivid a picture as possible. That way, when you are faced with a few bumps on the road or a major obstacle, you can go back to your vision and let it supply you with the necessary motivation to forge ahead.
