Fun and Interesting Things To Do - Part One

A little while ago, I came across a list of 100 Ideas by Keri Smith. It is a list of ideas for use with a journal. I believe that most of those ideas can also be used in a blog. Below is a list of the ones that I found to be the most intriguing.

1) Write a letter to yourself in the future. Where do you see yourself 5, 10, or 15 years from now? Write it down in your letter. Tell yourself what your plans are. Imagine yourself reading this letter 15 years from now. Will you find out that you have achieved your dreams and goals or will you be disappointed? Try to include all areas of your life such as family, financial, spiritual, and any thing else you can think of. We are so busy in our day-to-day activities that we seldom have time to think and ponder our future and the future of our loved ones. All too often we are surprised at how quickly the days go by yet we never take the time to stop to catch our breath. This excercise might help.

2) Find a photo of someone you do not know. Write a brief bio about them. How much can you tell about a person’s life from their picture? you might be able to gain a lot of insight by looking into someone’s eyes. Either way, you can give your imagination a good workout during this excercise.
3) Take 15 minutes to eat an orange. Beside the fact that this deals with one of my favourite topics (food), it kind of relates to #1 above. The idea is to slow down our frantic pace and enjoy the simple things in life. When you are done, you can also carve the orange peels into interesting shapes.
4) Read a book in one day. I know what you are probably going to say, “I can not find one hour a day to read, you want me to take a whole day?” A lot of people, myself included, would fine this very hard to do. But I strongly believe in the importance of what I like to call “alone time”. Every week, I give my self 2 -3 hours of alone time where I get to do anything that I feel like (well, almost anything). I would love the opportunity to have a whole day to myself. However, in the mean time, I am quite happy with as much alone time as I can get. You can also use this alone time to do your thinking sessions. This is where you plan for your future, evaluate and re-evaluate your current situation. I will have some more to say about thinking sessions in a later post.

5) Write a letter to someone you admire. Tell that person the reasons you admire him/her, how he/she influences your life and what you learned from that person. If you met this person, what would you talk about?

6) Give away something you love. Would you give that something you love away because there is someone who can take care of it as much as you did? Would you give it away to someone because they could make better use of it? Perhaps you want to detach yourself from “things” and that may be your reason for giving something you love away.
7) List all of the places you have ever lived. I would also add a favourite memory of each place. What do you remember the most about that place? would you want to go back there? Do you still have freinds who live there?Do you keep in touch with those friends?

8) Recall your favourite childhood game. Who did you play with? Where did you play this game? What happened to the people you used to play with?

Hopefully, these ideas inspire you to wrtie in your journal or blog. I strongly recommend that you take a look at the complete list. Next time, I will continue with more of the items that I found to be intriguing.

I also invite you to share with us any other ideas or stories that you have. Until next time….
